Erasmus in Spain. Madrid

I had a trip to the capital of Spain-Madrid. Madrid is a ‘male’ city, reserved, with inner passion and it definitely has a lot to offer.

My primary aim was to see the concert of Love of Lesbian, a Catalan band that I love a lot. And no, it has nothing to do with homosexuality. The concert was definitely worth attending, I was in the first row jumping and singing along with the band, even though I don’t know all the lyrics.

I spent in total 4 days in Madrid. My other wish came true- I saw ‘Meninas’! When I was a child, my mom gave me a lot of books about art. One painting caught my eye – ‘Meninas’ by Diego Velazquez. I have no idea why, but since I was 12, the only painting I was dreaming to see was this one. And in Madrid, in museo Prada I finally had a chance to make my wish come true.

Museo Prada and Reina Sofia offer students a free entrance which I think is amazing. Museo Prada has a big and interesting collection, definitely a must-go during your stay in Madrid. Reina Sofia has the Hernica and a lot of weird ‘pieces of art’; contemporary art is something I will never understand.

By coincidence, I was in Madrid during the El Clasico. Sitting in a bar with my friends, having a beer and watching football-amazing. Seeing your favorite team winning-even better! You must be crazy to support Barcelona when you are in Madrid but whatever.

An adventure-on the same weekend there were huge protests. People fighting with the police, helicopters flying around the city. Luckily, I was home safe and sound.

Royal Palace, the Cathedral, Puerta del Sol, Puerta de Alcala…. All these buildings are stunning. If you ask me what city in Spain is my favorite-my answer by now is ‘Madrid’.
